To learn the material, I used\u00a0Stephane Maarek’s DevOps Engineer Professional Udemy Course<\/a>. I went through all the videos on 2x speed, since a majority of the videos were reused from some of his other courses, which I had already taken. <\/p>

For practice questions, I used the Skill Builder AWS Exam Prep Official Practice Question Set: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional<\/a> as well as the Skill Builder Exam Prep Official Practice Exam: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional<\/a><\/p>

Along with these materials, I spent a lot of time building things out in the AWS Console, as I’ve found that I learn most about a service when I’m actually using it. I recreated several of Adrian Cantrill’s labs<\/a>, and I found them very helpful for services I didn’t have much hands on experience with.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I dedicated three weeks to study for this certification, I studied infrequently for the first 1.5 weeks, and studied a lot during the last 1.5 weeks. First 2 weeks I focused on learning the material through courses and labs. Last 3 days before the exam I went through the practice exam questions mentioned above.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

I took the 20 question practice set first, and got a 55%. After that, I went back through all the topics I wasn’t confident on and read the AWS white papers and FAQs for each specific service. After that, I went through various labs involving the services in my AWS account to gain hands on experience. <\/p>

Next, I took the 75 question Skill Builder practice exam, and I scored 840\/1000. After that, I took my exam the following morning and passed!<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

Overall, it was a very challenging exam, but I learned a lot about AWS automation through the preparation process. The exam questions are very long, and each answer is typically technically possible, but not the best choice for what the question is asking. This requires you to know a lot about each of the services, to be able to distinguish between the minor differences. I would definitely recommend this certification for anyone who is looking to learn more about provisioning, operating, and managing distributed application systems on AWS.
